Simplifying things

It’s funny that I have this thing going on my mind right now.

It’s about how to deal with problems or issue we are facing each day… whether it may be at work, home, relationships, or where ever it may be. Funny that the most basic problem solving technique that we have learned since elementary years at school would be, I think the most effective way of dealing with these certain things I have said.

It’s what we have grown to and I might start growing old with if result would be the way it should be. It’s called GRESA. Funny but it might work.

So here’s my design:

G: Given. This would be the process of realization of facts (problems/issues) needed to be resolved.
R: Required. After laying all the issues, its time to identify what kind of change, plan of action or improvement needed.
E: Equation. This would be the stage were both parties would try to compromise into achieving the goal or purpose stated. Keyword: meet halfway.
S: Solution. After both parties agreed upon something, they would now then start implementing the proposed solution. It’s a time for a reconciliation… time to start fixing what damages have done to both parties… helping wounds to heal.
A: Answer. This would be the hardest stage of all, since this would be requiring a big U… Understanding… once both parties understand each other’s differences and exerting more effort to be more patient, disregarding egos… the end result would be beneficial.

As for what’s happening now we already halfway done on the E stage… how wonderful life could be if we could just apply GRESA in our daily struggles.

*other proposed solution may be the scientific approach…

going to Regatta?

Ha ha ha! I wish, but why not?
I was so excited on joining Rham and her bf Budoy on their rowing training at CCP, that I got up very early and arrived 15 mins earlier at Figarro… since I really like this new experience I waited patiently till Ayla and Rham arrived past 6am… too bad Ken wasn’t able to make it today…

Fortunately Bage’s team waited for us so we head on to the shores of Manila Bay. Ayla and I have to transfer to the other boat in the middle of the sea… not literally middle, just wanna use middle today! Ha ha ha! They call the shorter boat a China boat and the longer one Taiwan boat… or the other way around… hmmm… whatever… it all got mixed up; I’ll just need to verify it with Budoy or Rham next week. So we transferred to a smaller boat with other amateur rowers… and were trained of the Basics by Budoy. After an hour of paddling, making the person in front of me wet and hitting his paddle… I get to master the bend-twist routine but still have to work on to the box-thing technique he instructed us… and after that hopefully next week we will be taught of the J technique. It was really tiring for us first timers, so tiring that we have to rest our paddles every now and then to cope up, but all in all… it was a blast! Plus all the people there are very approachable and friendly.

wrappin up the weekend

thanks nina for the wonderful gif! he he he... cool ------->

Whatta week it was! This maybe one of the most controversial week for me…

Sunday… @ Ellenwood
The responsive reading:

Ezekiel 33: 1 – 11
... Watchman, Tell Us!
The Word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, 'If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman; and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people; then if any one who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes, and takes any one of them; that man is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.'"
"So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from Me. If I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you shall surely die', and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way; he shall die in his iniquity, but you will have saved your life."
"And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, 'Thus have you said, "Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we waste away because of them; how then can we live?"' Say to them, 'As I live, says the LORD God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?'"
@ the devotion…
I have come to know the greatest responsibility we have here on earth… and that is to make God known to who have not known him… to make an unbeliever, a believer.
I did agree to what Shad have said that day… its about PRIDE… he says knowing who you are and how you should be treated isn’t PRIDE at all… as for me, I know it’s not about pride… I am fighting for what I believe in… though there are times that some disagree but at least I have made a stand… don’t want to explain further for it may cause me into another trouble again.

Monday… @d agency…
Dennis and I were given a better option by Emy, the secretary of our friend Jeff. At least if we can get this position we can still practice our profession… naks! He he he…

Tuesday… while trying to get some sleep
I have proven that most of the time when we are really mad we tend to do or say something that we will regret afterwards… I received a text that up to now I just can’t stop to laugh! True friends really are hard to find nowadays… one time they are complaining about a certain person the next day they are against you… what a phony.

Wednesday… @ d office
More things to laugh at… its sooooooo funny how people over react sometimes… I just can’t help but to pity them, though at times I have the tendency to over react as well. I accompanied Dunn at Megamall to buy the ingredients for his pasta.

Thursday… @ d 32nd
It was such a relief that all things that need to be brought up were BROUGHT OUT! Though it took us more than an hour to voice out everything but it was such a RELIEF! And now I will be at peace when I leave the project. I will miss most of the people here… but alboi still gotta do what he got to do!
I didn’t have enough energy to help my friend, Dennis, on transferring their stuffs since the NHA won over their case… I talked to him though and he understands I need to take some rest.

Friday… don’t mess up with me!
I arrived early at the office (as usual), I have to help Maja for the preparation of the mini program for the team… it was annoying that someone would give you a remark which is very FOUL! She doesn’t even have the right to do that… I wasn’t paid for helping the group on food distribution so she should have shut her mouth instead… anyways I made her shut up that time… so SHUT up! Waahhahha…
At last I made it @ den’s place… they were drinking some Red Horse when I got there… it’s a little bit heartbreaking to see their stuffs outside the building, I just hope that would be the last problem they will encounter… and I hope the agency would start calling us as well!

Saturday… sleepyhead
One down! He he he… well one problem solved… thanks to MAD…
Woke up 1:30am today… and finished my claims by 9… sooosh! I wanted to take a nap but cant do since I have to help in auditing the claims… it’s nicco quito’s last day here… oh how I wish my countdown would come to an end!...
Anyways I am looking forward to something that may be my new hobby… and it would be:

seven deadly sins

Vice
Virtue against which it sins
Brief description
Pride (1)HumilitySeeing ourselves as we are and not comparing ourselves to others is humility. Pride and vanity are competitive. If someone else's pride really bothers you, you have a lot of pride.
Avarice/Greed (5)GenerosityThis is about more than money. Generosity means letting others get the credit or praise. It is giving without having expectations of the other person. Greed wants to get its "fair share" or a bit more.
Envy (2)Love"Love is patient, love is kind…" Love actively seeks the good of others for their sake. Envy resents the good others receive or even might receive. Envy is almost indistinguishable from pride at times.
Wrath/Anger (3)KindnessKindness means taking the tender approach, with patience and compassion. Anger is often our first reaction to the problems of others. Impatience with the faults of others is related to this.
Lust (7)Self controlSelf control and self mastery prevent pleasure from killing the soul by suffocation. Legitimate pleasures are controlled in the same way an athlete's muscles are: for maximum efficiency without damage. Lust is the self-destructive drive for pleasure out of proportion to its worth. Sex, power, or image can be used well, but they tend to go out of control.
Gluttony (6)Faith and TemperanceTemperance accepts the natural limits of pleasures and preserves this natural balance. This does not pertain only to food, but to entertainment and other legitimate goods, and even the company of others.
Sloth (4)ZealZeal is the energetic response of the heart to God's commands. The other sins work together to deaden the spiritual senses so we first become slow to respond to God and then drift completely into the sleep of complacency.

the professor

Author: Unknown
Aug 9, 2005

The university professor challenged his students with this question.
"Did God create everything that exists?"
A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"
"God created everything?" The professor asked.
"Yes sir", the student replied.
The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God createdevil, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our worksdefine who we are, then God is evil".
The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor, quitepleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven oncemore that the Christian faith was a myth.
Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a questionprofessor?"
"Of course", replied the professor.
The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"
"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you neverbeen cold?"
The students snickered at the young man's question.
The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According tothe laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence ofheat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has ortransmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have ortransmit energy. Absolute zero (- 460 degrees F) is the total absenceof heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at thattemperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describehow we feel if we have no heat."
The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"
The professor responded, "Of course it does."
The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does notexist either Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we canstudy, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to breakwhite light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of eachcolor. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can breakinto a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark acertain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't thiscorrect? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens whenthere is no light present."
Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"
Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have alreadysaid. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man'sinhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violenceeverywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else butevil."
To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least itdoes not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It isjust like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describethe absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, orlove that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of whathappens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It'slike the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness thatcomes when there is no light."
The professor sat down.

…for the benefit of others

What is a blog?

A blog is a web page made up of usually short, frequently updated posts that are arranged chronologically — like a what's new page or a journal. The content and purposes of blogs varies greatly — from links and commentary about other web sites, to news about a company/person/idea, to diaries, photos, poetry, mini-essays, project updates, even fiction.
Blog posts are like instant messages to the web.
Many blogs are personal, "what's on my mind" type musings. Others are collaborative efforts based on a specific topic or area of mutual interest. Some blogs are for play. Some are for work. Some are both.
Blogs are also excellent team/department/company/family communication tools. They help small groups communicate in a way that is simpler and easier to follow than email or discussion forums. Use a private blog on an intranet to allow team members to post related links, files, quotes, or commentary. Set up a family blog where relatives can share personal news. A blog can help keep everyone in the loop, promote cohesiveness and group culture, and provide an informal "voice" of a project or department to outsiders.
Story is defined as an account or recital of an event or a series of events, either true or fictitious.
Libel
defined and explained…
An untruthful statement about a person, published in writing or through broadcast media that injures the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because libel is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. Libel is a form of defamation , as is slander (an untruthful statement that is spoken, but not published in writing or broadcast through the media).
Libel: Defined as any published communication that exposes an individual or organization to hatred, ridicule, or contempt, causes him/her to be socially shunned or held in lower esteem by others or injures a person in conducting his/her business or profession.
Components of Libel
Publication
Identification
Defamation
Falsity
random questions:
Don't I have a right to express my opinion?
Yes, so long as your statement of opinion is just an opinion, not containing specific facts that can be proved untrue.
I'm writing a book about the very small town I grew up in and changing the names of the people involved. Can I be sued for slander?
If it's the truth, no. Also, if you place a "disclaimer" at the beginning that the people and events have been changed to protect the innocent, and that any similarities to actual persons, either living or dead, are merely coincidental, then no. Remember, you have the First Amendment, which gives you freedom of speech.

Its human nature

When a cobra or any venomous snake got cornered they strike unto the thing or person or animal with their fangs… and so as a black widow who got stuck in a shoe and when you wore that shoe it will strike you… a dog who feels threatened would bark or even bite you…

There’s this so-called Texas horned lizard, this fierce-looking reptile has armor plating, frightening horns, and a squat body fringed with spikes. If that wasn't scary enough, it also has an unorthodox protection mechanism. This beast can squirt blood from its eyes to repel predators! The jets of blood are believed to contain irritants and caustic toxins. It's bizarre, bloody blurts have earned the lizard the world record for most unusual form of natural defense.

Same to us, those whom referred to as with much higher intelligence than of any other living species on earth… (I forgot the term for it). If we feel threatened, when somebody we care of are in danger… when we are about to face death we have different kind of approach on such instances… these are called defense mechanisms…

Now what really is defense mechanism?

It is defined into such viewpoints:
Biology. A physiological reaction of an organism used in self-protection, as against infection.
Psychology. Any of various usually unconscious mental processes, including denial, projection, rationalization, and repression, that protect the ego from shame, anxiety, conflict, loss of self-esteem, or other unacceptable feelings or thoughts.
Hmmm… I just wanna ask… is it really human nature to react onto something without even thinking? Just wanna ask… since we are given the higher level of intelligence, how come a lot of people have poor judgment and lacks veracity? As for me I am so darn happy today… because I have proven something… its inevitable not to think straight if you are in great threat… and for those who keep their composure and keep their cool when in difficult situation I think you deserve a round of applause!

tips on how to control your emotion

saw this on a bulletin board from friendster... just wanna post this thing...

This would give you guides on how to control your emotions towards your better-half, friends, officemates and all the people around you, especially your boss. The rules of practicing 'ugaling langit, ugaling kaaya-aya':

3. Ang taong galit, 'bingi.' If someone is angry, wala raw pinakikinggan, so, don't try to explain and fight back. Hindi ka niya iintindihin dahil wala siyang naririnig kundi ang sarili nya.

4. Ang taong galit, 'abnoy.' Ayon sa pastor, Biblical daw ito... because the Lord said when He was crucified, "Father, patawarin mo sila dahil hindi nila alam ang kanilang ginagawa."

5. Modern term for these kinds of people are abnoys, so you better not get angry para huwag kang matawag na abnoy.

6. You should also know and realize that the persons who make your day bad are jewel, because you need them for you to mature. Hangga't andyan daw sila at kinaiinisan mo, ibig sabihin, immature ka pa. God will not take away those people; it's for you to take away your bad feelings towards them.

7. You'll know na mature ka na pag dumating 'yung time na hindi ka na naiinis sa mga taong ito because you have learned to accept them and to have patience with them.

8. Finally, the best part of this is to tell yourself na, because of this person, "I will grow mature," and that DAHIL SA CONTRIBUTION NIYA SA MATURITY MO , KUKUNIN DIN SYA NI LORD!!!

The poor little girl

This is a story of a poor little girl who got involved into something she shouldn’t have. Her name is Barbie, though she’s at her 20’s she looks younger than her age… She was one of the jolly people who always hangout into gimmicks. Most of the guys are fond of her childish acts… she was nice… she always entertain everyone… specially men!
It was a shame that because when she got involved with a person of minimal authority, she became over protective losing her fair judgment, thus, making herself into a feeble-minded girl who’s deeply in love with a rotten-minded monster.

They made it to the list of the odd-couple! That’s what everyone else been thinking… well they didn’t know that. They have become one of the most famous past time laughing stock of the people around them. Some where annoyed of their PDA… and they got into trouble because of that. Oh how exciting it would be if I have witnessed the anger trying to build-up with the couple because of their carelessness.

And the story goes…
She reacted into something she haven’t even verified or even investigated… but who’s to blame? She’s in love! But then again it’s no excuse but it’s inevitable. Well poor girl… she got into something that she shouldn’t have. It’s pretty peculiar that she actually graduated in a top school in the country… OH love… it really does make you stupid sometimes.

Let's Stay Together
Al Green
I, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is all right with me
'Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
Since, since we've been together
Loving you foreverIs what I need
Let me be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue
Let's, let's stay together
Lovin' you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad
Why, why some people break up
Then turn around and make upI just can't see
You'd never do that to me (would you, baby)Staying around you is all I see
(Here's what I want us to do)
Let's, we oughta stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

at last

the much awaited "special townhall" has come! this was the special awarding of those associates that qualifies for the incentives but for some reasons the list didn't make it on the deadline... in our case the reason was someone petitioned our records... well that's too sensitive to open up here... it turned out to our favor in the end so its okidokie!
the program was hosted by the ever lively charles again, and i was the first one to be called... ha ha ha! i wasn't even prepared for the event... well this would be the last parchment paper i will be receiving... he he he!
anyway, I already started to say goodbye to all of the peeps i get to know here... and i am still curious what would tin be saying to me...
i was happy that i get to voice out what needs to be told and i would be starting to finish all of my requirements and outta here whatever it takes! au revoir!

Self-discipline… I need that!

There are certain things in this life that you have to take into consideration so you won’t mess up. As for me just this morning someone told me of something that what I am trying to prevent from happening… weird thing is I feel the same… I have same thoughts… we have the same thoughts! But I have to hold back my thoughts to prevent things from being complicated.

Let’s say you have a friend that you are attracted…well physically, suddenly your friend opened up about some wacky thoughts, sex in particular… doing “it” with me! I was thinking about it as well… but I have to cutoff the conversation before it lead into anything that might make things worst… call me silly but I am much interested engaging in a long term relationship. Ha ha ha! I didn’t mean for the two of us… but I want to make things right this time. Plus the fact that it is always me who ends up falling… AND DON’T YOU THINK THAT WILL BE OF YOUR ADVANTAGE? He he he… just teasing! Anyway I want you to know that I’ll keep that promise… just be patient, we’ll get there! Ha ha ha!

"well, there are things meant to be noticed and also those which seems to be non-existing yet important..just like the air, quiet, intangible, invisible but needed by everybody to live... don't be upset by the things not going in your way, (hmm..maybe the more you expect the more you'll get disappointed) just do your best always and who knows there will come a time when you'll gather all the fruits of your hard work...just like what i've said before its just like air you think nobody notices all your hard work but what the hell...nobody's blind not to see it or feel it its just some people are being intimidated or rather humuliated[?] by you since you've [...?] than more than they have did in their life... don't feel bad everybody notices your hard work it's just some people are so afraid to bow their heads (pride i say)...well have to end my mini essay here, but you have the right to say this to the management..can't we have a freedom of speech...yet you have some proof to impute them..ryt?"

WHOAH!!! darn! can't believe just what you've just said... newei i was right of my impression at you way back in training days... you have something to show... thanks for that comment you gave to my other blog... you really are something, you just dont let everyone discover that. THANKS my friend! well you've just proven to me that you are more than the WAKOKOK and HEK HEK's you've said before.

We had a system downtime yesterday… good thing the GPWC had conducted a BINGO game while waiting for the system to go back… Charles was such a lively host… his wicked pranks drives me nuts… specially when he told everyone who didn’t win to write down our names at the back of the bingo cards… and so we thought that there would be a draw for a special prize for the non-winning cards… and then he said keep it and practice more… or something like that! Ha ha ha! It was a fun ice breaker though!
I have to start processing at the office by 4am today...because we didn’t have the queue’s emptied yesterday. Good thing the supposed gimmick with some good friends was pushed this Sunday so I get to have some sleep…

I am expecting the “special town hall” for us today, for some reasons I won’t dare to blab here, but nothing happened. Anyways I feel for miss ann… seeing her cry last SAT in front of us all here at Papa Golf… it was such a shame that our efforts wasn’t recognized because of that…(* though we are qualified here for the incentive… and we deserve to be acknowledged). Anyways it was a great lunch at Mc Do… I had my syrup/honey filled egg mcmuffin since we had our lunch much earlier… saw the STAR wave 2 peeps there… and I was happy they are still intact, I see to them what Wave 1 used to look like… just having fun.

time to hibernate? nah, just having a vacation elsewhere...

Because of some unanticipated circumstances that took place…
I have to resort on transferring all of my previous post here to a journal which cannot be accessed in public. There are certain things you have to take into consideration… one thing would be my previous post… that is why here I am in a remote computer shop located at Pasay City, gathering up my thoughts and having them typewritten in an out dated word version. (of course i am just making this up... i am not in a pc shop... he he he)

Au contraire, having them kept in private have some advantages. I will have some privacy; minimize unsought access on my journals; I could express my thoughts without restraints and avoid dense reactions from readers. Some people find it hard to understand that what I write is what I feel and I got no intentions of belittling them or whatsoever. And I guess I had enough controversy on writing down certain things that I rant about… and I am fed up of being in the limelight. But a message from Recca made me realize I have become more of an inspiration (to others) than of a detractor. She simply said, “recca: dhil sayo nag blog n din ako...” Actually for some, reading my entries have become more of a past time activity for them and they may have disagreed to what I have posted but they give me their feedback and I respect them for that… a person as such deserves high-respect. An honest opinion for an honest opinion… how great could that be? Anyway… so here’s what happened…

Once there was a group of friends that have gone their separate ways because of philosophies/principles in life… (Though differences should make them solid, it tore them apart). Let us just call them the dolphin, the donkey, the eagle, the monkey, the snake, the scorpion, the parrot, the worm and the owl.

At one point in time the eagle had a different point of view with the help of his newly found friends the parrot and the scorpion. The eagle had a great time exchanging thoughts with the parrot and the scorpion without any pretensions. An event that made the eagle think to do an action that might be of help have started both parties gone sour. The eagle tried to voice out his angst by shouting into the highest mountain called Mt. Ivory, not thinking of the people around. The donkey passed by one time heading to the dolphin’s house… he overheard the eagle venting his rants. So he immediately blabbed about it on to others then they had some chit-chats about it… good thing the snake was within the vicinity and the next thing she did was hissing the things she heard to the owl. And then the owl told the eagle. So the eagle, to prevent from causing into much more trouble, decided to find a shell where he could rant with privacy.

The end…

There’s a lot of lesson learned in the story, and maybe one time if given a chance… I could get to fix my pc again I will make another blog about the story. He he he… to IYA… at least you’ve tried… the outcome may not be what you’ve expected but at least you did something… they will surely have their taste of KARMA in no time. Thanks ALFIE, MJ, CRISSEL and KJ for the candid comment. I am flattered NINA that you were inspired by my thoughts. RAYMOND… wakonga! He he he… I just hope life is like that, when you hate somebody you could just punch his brains out! But that's not how it goes... good thing there’s a lot more sensible person around. Thanks guys!

for my fellow bloggers

Can You Be Fired for Blogging?
By Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder.com
It was Merriam-Webster Online's No. 1 word of 2004, and Fortunemagazine named it the No. 1 tech trend for 2005. Two surveys by thePew Internet & American Life Project in November 2004 found that 8million people say they have created one and almost one-third ofInternet users say they read one. But it's still a mystery: Six-of-tenInternet users say they don't know what "blog" means.
A blog, according to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, is "a Website that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments and often hyperlinks provided by the writer."
Bloggers write about their lives to keep friends and familyup-to-date, talk about their industry, discuss hobbies or rant abouttheir favorite reality TV show. But posting pictures of you at work, disclosing confidential information about your employer, orbad-mouthing your co-workers could get you in hot water for committinginappropriate behavior.
Whether or not it's intentional, divulging dirt about your job canspell trouble at work. Ellen Simonetti, a flight attendant for Delta, learned this the hard way.
Simonetti started a blog as a way to cope with her mother's deathbecause she found it easier to write about her feelings than talkabout them. She described it as an anonymous, semi-fictitious accountof life as a flight attendant -- and she lost her job because of it.
Simonetti claims her termination resulted from pictures posted on herWeb site, which show her in uniform aboard a Delta airplane. "The onlyreason I was given was the very vague phrase: `inappropriate picturesin uniform.' Delta will not define what `inappropriate' means, nortell me which pictures they found `inappropriate'," she says. Whenasked about the issue, a Delta representative said the company doesnot discuss internal employee-related issues with the media.
Whatever bloggers are writing about work, employers don't like it.Employees have reportedly been fired for blogging at a number ofcompanies, including Starbucks, Delta, Wells Fargo, Friendster and Kmart.
In a January 2005 survey by the Society for Human Resource Management(SHRM), only 3 percent of human resource professionals reportdisciplining an employee for blogging and none reported dismissing anemployee for such behavior. Despite this, ejected bloggers stand by their claims.
What could be grounds for termination? If you are disclosing tradesecrets or proprietary or confidential information on your blog orusing excessive amounts of time when you should be working, it'spossible you will reap the consequences, says Rosemary Haefner, vicepresident for human resources at CareerBuilder.com.
"Companies need to do their best to not only protect their interests, but protect their employees," says Jeremy Wright, fired blogger andfounder of InsideBlogging, a blog consulting company. "Most firingsare due to individual bosses taking drastic measures; it is rarely ahigher company decision. When a blogger is going to be fired, the HRteam needs to be sure it is for the right reason and that reactivemeasures simply aren't being taken due to fear or personal issues."
If you're thinking of starting your own blog or already have one, here's some advice to make sure your online diary isn't reason foryour employer to let you go:
1. Know where your company stands.Ask about the company blogging policy before you start, even if youare doing it anonymously, Simonetti advises. Does your companyestablish boundaries? Is blogging acceptable? Is it OK to mention youremployer? Are there topics that are off-limits? What are the consequences?
2. Blog on your own time.If you are using company hardware, a company network or doing it oncompany time, you are likely bound by company policy and could bereprimanded or terminated for wrongful use, Haefner says.
3. Practice safe blogs."Employees who go around sharing negative or confidential informationabout their company, product, or service -- either internal orexternal -- to the company would and should get fired," says PeteQuintas, CTO of SilkRoad Technology, creator of an enterprise bloggingapplication called Silkblogs. "You need to be honest and not secretiveabout what you are writing unless you are willing to deal with theconsequences."
4. Don't hide it from your boss.Quintas says you should be honest about your blogging, and ask youremployer if it is OK to do. "I would consider it analogous to askingyour employer: 'I have been invited to speak on a panel at thisindustry conference; can I participate?'"
5. Use good judgment. If you consider blogs and the Internet an extension of your voice, what you say on your blog about your company, product or serviceshould be kept within the guidelines of what you would verbally say inpublic, according to Quintas. "Treat it with the same restraint of howyou talk in person about your company, remembering that more peoplehave access to what you say." he suggests. "Don't say anythingdifferent than what you would say at a happy hour, or at a companyholiday party, or at an industry trade show, or in front of a customer."
6. Others will disagree with you.You can't please all people all of the time. As with anycommunications medium, the best advice is to be aware of therepercussions your decisions may have, Wright warns. "Anytime youpost, you are effectively making a choice between being safe, andhaving something worthwhile to say. It's a rare occasion where you canboth please everyone and come up with a new and engaging line ofthought. Sometimes things you say will offend people, no matter whereyou're saying them."
